Thank you for your interest in the laboratory. Due to the volume of correspondence, generic or untargeted applications are unlikely to receive a response.
Postdoctoral positions and prospective Fellows
2025: We are currently only recruiting postdocs through specific open calls.
Throughout the year: we welcome focused applications from motivated candidates who are ambitious to secure their own fellowship funding to support postdoctoral research in our laboratory. Candidates should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant discipline, have at least one first-author research paper published in a reputable international journal, and meet eligibility criteria for competitive fellowships (e.g., RCoF, EMBO, HFSP, or similar). Mentorship support may be available for highly qualified and motivated candidates. Prospective applicants should contact Tom early in their planning phase and include the following:
A cover letter that clearly describes what excites you about our science.
Your specific research idea and future career goals.
CV with employment history, project history and contact information for three referees.
Graduate students
Prospective PhD candidates should contact Tom directly with details of their eligibility for doctoral study, a CV highlighting their academic achievements and work experience, and contact information for three referees. Applicants should be prepared to explain their research interests and why our team and research are of particular interest to them.
Clinical researchers: Our research uses preclinical models and patient samples. If you are considering a career as a clinical researcher and looking for a host lab, please get in touch with Tom.
Clinical researchers
We welcome enquiries from practising and newly graduated clinicians in Finland who are eligible for RCoF Clinical Researcher funding (LT, HLT, ELT). Our research area is clinically-relevant and amenable to a wide range of translational and discovery questions. If you are considering applying to this call and seeking a host lab or collaborator, please contact Tom with a short statement of interest and your CV to arrange a meeting.
Thesis research students
A limited number of positions are available for undergraduate (medical/science) and postgraduate students enrolled at the University of Helsinki (typically from MNeuro, TRANSMED and DevBiol programs). If you are interested in pursuing your thesis project in the laboratory, please contact Tom directly with details of your study track, academic transcripts and a CV. Laboratory experience is welcome, but not always necessary. MD students interested in a thesis project are also very welcome to contact Tom for discussions.
Laboratory Support
Technical support positions may arise periodically. Contact Tom directly with a short CV outlining your relevant experience and contact details for three referees.
